Raymong Belliotti's Shakespeare and Philosophy: Lust, Love, and Law, was recently published by Rodopi. The book is an interdisciplinary work that weaves literary interpretation, legal theory, and philosophical doctrine about sex and love into a coherent mosaic in the context of two of Shakespeare’s plays: The Merchant of Venice and Measure for Measure. In the process, the work advances literary interpretations of the plays including character studies of the main protagonists.
Three SUNY Fredonia seniors -- Sara Maiorana, Noelle Panepento, and Kayla Patrick – received Sonnenfeld Awards from the Council for Women’s Concerns (CWC) at its annual ceremony held Nov. 12 at the Horizon Room in the Williams Center.

The fall Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Series, “A Global Perspective,” will conclude on Dec. 5 with a look at “Holidays from Around the World.” Presenters include: Daniela Peterka-Benton, Ph.D., Sociology; Eric Meringer, Ph.D., History; Chiara De Santi, Ph.D., Modern Languages; and, Ellen Litwicki, Ph.D. , History, who will moderate the panel.

“Reaping the Harvest of Reaching OUT to SUNY,” a 2012 grant initiative conducted at SUNY Fredonia, has achieved several of its goals of gathering information and developing initiatives to promote awareness related to diversity in LGBTQ issues. Following submission of the data to Campus Pride, a non-profit organization administering the climate index, SUNY Fredonia received an overall score of 3.5 out of 5 stars, better than average for a university of Fredonia’s size and geographic location.
Dr. Jessica Akey, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication, and Dr. Najia Aarim-Heriot, Associate Professor of the Department of History, have been selected to participate in the 2013 CIEE International Faculty Development Seminars. SUNY Fredonia’s VPAA/Provost has funded faculty participation in these seminars for the past three years.
Using examples from the American stage repertoire, Dr. Jessica Hillman has written a book that examines how the Holocaust resonated in popular musicals, and traces changing American attitudes towards it over the years. Through the book, Dr. Hillman has done pioneer analysis on the intersection of musical theatre and the difficulties of Holocaust representation in entertainment.
