Jessica Hillman's new book explores how the Holocaust has resonated on the American musical stage
Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance Jessica Hillman, at right, is the author of the new book, "Echoes of the Holocaust on the American Musical Stage," published by McFarland Press.
Using examples from the American stage repertoire (see below) , Dr. Hillman examines how the Holocaust resonated in popular musicals, and traces changing American attitudes towards it over the years. Through the book, Dr. Hillman has done pioneer analysis on the intersection of musical theatre and the difficulties of Holocaust representation in entertainment.
Jessica Hillman is an assistant professor of theatre and dance at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Her articles have been published in The Drama Review, Theatre Topics, and Studies in Musical Theatre among other journals.
