Women are volleyball SUNYAC champs

Fredonia State won its first SUNYAC championship in women's volleyball by defeating New Paltz, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Dods Hall. The Blue Devils (27-9) also set a school record for wins in a season and earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth with the 26-24, 25-15, 25-18 victory. They will play Haverford College on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m., at the NCAA Tournament being held at Union College.

Women's volleyball wins Division

The Blue Devils earned the right to host the SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Championships by winning the SUNYAC West Division. The team, coached by Geoffrey Braun, went 10-0 in conference play, sweeping every match 3-0 during the season. The tournament begins Thursday, Nov. 6.

Ruterbusch 5K run benefits athletics programs

The second annual Fred Ruterbusch Memorial 5K Run and Fun Run Mile takes place as part of Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. behind Steele Hall. The Fun Run Mile will follow at 11 a.m. on the indoor track in Steele Hall, followed by the post-race awards ceremony. Proceeds benefit the Phillips Cross Country and Track & Field Endowment Fund.

Horsington named SUNY Scholar-Athlete

Senior clarinetist Scott Horsington was one of 76 student athletes from 27 campuses selected for the 2007-08 Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I, Division III and NJCAA levels.
