Homecoming 2023, slated for Oct. 20 to 23, marks the 60th anniversary of the Department of Geology, the 20th anniversary of the 1970s Reunion Jazz Ensemble, honored classes’ celebrations — and great theatre and athletic contests, along with a host of other special events.
Homecoming 2021 at SUNY Fredonia presents opportunities, challenges and celebrations. Alumni William E. Finn, ’83, and the Honorable William K. Taylor, ’97, will be honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Award-winning scientist Kimberlee (Neifer) Caldwell, ’87, returned to campus to accept the Outstanding Achievement Award during Homecoming and deliver a seminar to students and faculty about her ground-breaking research into the possible causes of Parkinson’s disease. Her seminar, titled, “Worming out a potential cause for Parkinson’s disease,” covered neuroscience, human health and microbial ecology in a discussion of new data Dr. Caldwell has published on a novel environmental cause of neuronal cell death.
John Poppo, a Sound Recording Technology (SRT) major and founder of Pop Productions in Manhattan, was honored Saturday, Oct. 18 in a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the SUNY Fredonia SRT program. School of Music Director Karl Boelter began the ceremony at the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall and SUNY Fredonia President Dennis Hefner presented Poppo with the award. “I’m not exaggerating in the least when I tell you that everything I’ve earned, all of the successes I’ve enjoyed throughout my career, I can trace back to what I learned right here at Fredonia,” Poppo said during his acceptance speech.
