Woodford, Bailey, Sudbrink to captain hockey squad

The Fredonia State men's hockey team began practice this week in preparation for the 2023-24 season. The team will be led by senior Captain Kurri Woodford. Fellow seniors Ryan Bailey and David Sudbrink will serve as Assistant Captains.

Woodford is a defenseman from Littleton, CO. He played in 13 games last season, scoring twice and recording a pair of assists. Bailey is a senior forward from Anchorage, AK. He led the team with 17 points (11 goals, 6 assists). Sudbrink hails from Nolensville, TN. and had two goals and five assists. Both Bailey and Sudbrink played in all 25 games. 

Last season, the Devils earned the No. 6 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament before falling to Geneseo in the opening round. The Devils open the season on Friday, Oct. 27.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.

Riding the steady right arm of senior Emily Chelius, the Fredonia State softball team claimed a 6-2 win in Game 1 of its doubleheader at Buffalo State and qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament.
