TICKET PUNCHED! Softball headed to SUNYACs

Riding the steady right arm of senior Emily Chelius, the Fredonia State softball team claimed a 6-2 win in Game 1 of its doubleheader at Buffalo State and qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament. But the Devils were not done there. They went on to claim Game 2 by a 7-4 count, and bypassed the Bengals, claiming the No. 5 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament.

Game 1
Chelius went seven innings earning her fifth win of the year, giving up two runs, one earned, while scattering nine hits and striking out six. The top three batters got the job done for the Devils, with Allie Wandell, Madison Lowe, and Chelius combining for eight of the team's 10 hits. Wandell went 3-3, Lowe 3-4, and Chelius helped her own cause with a pair of hits, including a two-run homerun. Wandell and Lowe both doubled, as did Madison Devore.

The Devils broke open the scoring with three runs in the third and three more in the fourth.

Game 2
Vanessa Galbraith wen the distance in the second game, with seven innings of work, giving up four runs, two earned. She struck out three, walked none, and gave up nine hits.

Madison Lowe got things going right away, tripling in Wandell in the first. A groundout by Chelius put the Devils up 2-0.

After the Bengals scored in the bottom of the first, three more runs in the second put the Devils up, 5-1. A bunt single by Kayla Jo Lynn resulted in a throwing error that scored both Avery Hill and Megan Guidry. Lynn came home on a ground out off the bat of Devore.

Fredonia State added a run in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Bengals made it interesting in the seventh scoring twice. Galbraith would retire the final batter to claim her seventh win of the season.

Fredonia State improves its conference record to match Buffalo State at 8-10. By virtue of the sweep, the Devils claim the fifth seed and bump the Bengals down to the No. 6 spot.

The Devils (15-22 overall) head to the SUNYAC Tournament next week.
