Relay squad earns All-Region nod

All-Region honorees for the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season were announced March 7 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Fredonia State men's 4 x 400m relay team was among those honored. 

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.

Nick Abdo, Toby Onuoha, Josh Walters, and Nick Marsowicz earned recognition in the Niagara Region. Their top time this year was 3:20.21 was at the All Atlantic Regional Track & Field Meet. They had run a 3:21.25 at the SUNYAC Meet, and put up a solid 3:20.59 at Boston University.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.

Riding the steady right arm of senior Emily Chelius, the Fredonia State softball team claimed a 6-2 win in Game 1 of its doubleheader at Buffalo State and qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament.
