Fast start propels Devils past SUNY Buffalo State

The Fredonia State women's basketball earned the season sweep against SUNY Buffalo State routing the Bengals, 63-46, on Saturday. The Devils would never trail in this game and would shoot a scorching 5-6 from three to take a early 18 point lead going into the second quarter and would never look back.

Allie Wandell and Caitlin Snyder would anchor the Devils offense with Wandell scoring 11 points and Snyder with 10. Wandell would also finish the night with a team-high seven rebounds and four assists.

The Devils would get contributions on offense from multiple players with nine players scoring, shooting 46% from the field. The Devils would dominate the paint scoring 34 points inside, and 24 points off of turnovers.

Buffalo State was lead by Adiya Jones with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Maddy Stearns and Carly Atty would score nine points each.

This win improves Fredonia State to 10-10 overall and 5-8 in the SUNYAC. The Devils currently are in seventh place in the SUNYAC standings behind Brockport for the sixth and final playoff spot.

The Devils remain at home Tuesday when they play host to a women's/men's doubleheader vs. Oneonta. Action starts at 2 p.m. in Dods Hall.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
