The Fredonia State women's soccer team used a goal in each half to take down Utica, 2-0, on Saturday and claim the Blue Devil Classic Championship. The Devils won 4-2 on Friday. 

Bronwyn Madden scored in the 38th minute on an assist from Grace Mackey. Mackey scored an insurance goal in the 81st minute on an assist from Katie Sellers.

Dani Rubino made four saves in recording the shutout. Courtney Connolly had 10 saves and gave up two scores for Utica.

The Devils improve to 2-2 on the season.

At the conclusion of the tournament, freshman Gabby Irwin was named the Tournament MVP. Brooke Grazen, Bri Grazen, and Gracie Auer were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Irwin scored twice in Friday's victory.

Oswego and Washington & Jefferson played to a 1-1 tie in the other women's game on Saturday. Oswego took second place, and W&J was third.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.

Riding the steady right arm of senior Emily Chelius, the Fredonia State softball team claimed a 6-2 win in Game 1 of its doubleheader at Buffalo State and qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament.
