Devils score 29 in sweep of Greensburg

The Fredonia State baseball team took a pair of games at Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday by scores of 11-5 and 18-7. Christian Pagano homered in both games and drove in seven, and Garrett Stuckey had a pair of doubles and drove in six runs.

Game 1
The day did not start well for the Blue Devils as Greensburg scored three times in the bottom of the first inning off starting pitcher Morgan Zientara. Zientara would settle in and not allow a run over the next three innings, giving the Fredonia State bats a chance to work ther way to a 5-3 lead after four complete.

Greensburg then greeted relieve Joe Tobia with a pair of runs to tie the game at 5-all in the bottom of the fifth.

After a scoreless sixth for both teams, the Devils exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh, and Tobia would finish the game with a scoreless seventh and get the win. A one-out homerun by Pagano put the Devils up 7-6 before tacking on five more runs.

Stuckey had four hits, including a double, and four RBI. Pagano and Alex Gannon each drove in three apiece.

Game 2
Starting pitcher Peyton Ahlstrom was the beneficiary of a seven-run first before he would even take the mound. The Devils would have another big inning in the third, tacking on six more for a 13-1 lead.

Ahlstrom took the win, going five innings, striking out five and giving up four runs, all earned. Alexander Needham finished the game with two innings of relief, giving up one unearned run.

AJ Roach was 3-3 with four runs scored. Pagano was 2-4 with four RBI, and Zachary Richards was 2-2 with a double.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
