Cam Sample flies with the greates of ease.

The Fredonia State men's track and field team competed at Brockport on Saturday.

Here's a look at some of the highlights:

  • Cameron Sample would finish 3rd out of 30 competitors in the long jump with a leap of 6.48m. 
  • Evan Thayer would finish third in the unseeded 60 meter dash with a time of 7.53. Blake Hageman would finish 6th with a time of 7.59.
  • Quillan Shimp would finish 6th in the prelims, and 8th in the finals of the 60m hurdles. His times were of 9.07 in the prelims and 9.24 in the finals.
  • Jacob Winn would finish 10th in the 60m dash invite (7.23) and 13th out of 67 runners in the 200 meter dash (23.74). 
  • Nick Marsowicz and Jordan Lockett would finish 18th and 19th, respectively, out of 47 runners in the 400 meter dash. Their times were 53.08 for Marsowicz, and 53.14 for Lockett.

The Devils will next travel to Staten Island, N.Y. for the NYC Gotham Cup from Feb. 9 through 12.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.

Riding the steady right arm of senior Emily Chelius, the Fredonia State softball team claimed a 6-2 win in Game 1 of its doubleheader at Buffalo State and qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament.
