School of Music violin professor Maureen Yuen will present an evening of music with faculty piano member Sang Woo Kang on March 20 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.

The program includes works by Igor Stravinsky, Beethoven and Saint-Saens.

Ms. Yuen completed her Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees in Violin Performance at the University of British Columbia at the age of 21.  As a founding member of the English Bay String Quartet, Ms. Yuen has toured North America, and has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Canada, and Italy. She has played with the Victoria Symphony, Wichita Symphony and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada.  Her appearances this season include recitals and masterclasses in British Columbia, Ontario, Washington, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, New York, and Norway.

Mr. Kang, also on the Fredonia School of Music faculty, has drawn attention as a captivating musician who thrills audiences with interpretive clarity and vision. A native of Seoul, Korea, Mr. Kang made his orchestral debut with Colorado Pueblo Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Age of 9, and accolades soon followed.  As an active performer, his concert itinerary in 2007-2008 include recitals in Boston, Carnegie Hall, Juilliard School, Field Concert Hall in Philadelphia, and recital series in Tokyo, Osaka, and Seoul, Korea. Starting this fall, he will be added as part of music management sponsored by DUMBO Space (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass) in New York City.

Strauss to conduct area concerts

Dr. Robert Strauss will conduct the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus in “ WALK TOGETHER,” a concert to be performed at three sites in May and featuring “Tyler’s Suite,” a nine-song cycle about the life and death of Tyler Clementi, as well as songs from, or about, Buffalo, NY.
