New installation for "In-Sight/On-Site" program

Sculpture artist Paul Howe, who specializes in site specific installations and commissions, installed his work, “Mudtub,” on the lawn between Mason Hall and Reed Library this week.
The steel, brick and mortar piece, on loan for a three-year period, is being brought to campus by the In Sight/On Site program.
A 2009 B.F.A. graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, Howe is currently enrolled in the graduate program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He serves as a graduate assistant there and guest speaker/visiting artist at Longwood University, Farmville, Va.
Howe has participated in group exhibitions in Chapel Hill, Winston-Salem and Greensboro, N.C., during 2011 and, the prior year, in Boston; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Summit, N.J.; Franconia, Minn.; and Yonkers, N.Y.
Artist's Statement: "One time my father took me to his jobsite and he laid brick and showed me work. Another time my mother took me to her kitchen and she cooked and showed me instinct. Then one day I made a sculpture and I haven’t stopped since."
Financial support for the exhibit has been obtained by the student organization Art Forum. Initiated by the Department of Visual Arts and New Media, the In Sight/On Site program accepts outdoor sculpture for ongoing, revolving installation to introduce new developments and directions within contemporary sculpture to the campus and surrounding community.
