Lawson, Bleecher, and McCown receive President’s Awards

President's Awards 2009 

SUNY Fredonia honored three employees with the President's Award for Excellence recently.  President Dennis L. Hefner presented this year's awards to Michael S. Bleecher, associate director of admissions; Holly J. Lawson, associate professor of chemistry; and Deborah McCown, office manager for the Faculty Student Association. President Hefner also recognized SUNY Fredonia employees for various years of service (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45).

Mr. Bleecher was appointed to the admissions office as a counselor in 1998. Since then, he has been promoted to assistant director, interim director, and, currently, associate director of admissions. He came to SUNY Fredonia from SUNY Binghamton, where he was assistant director of campus life and orientation. He holds a B.A. in economics from SUNY Fredonia and an M.S. Ed. In Student Personnel Administration from SUNY College at Buffalo. He resides in Hamburg.

Dr. Holly Lawson has been teaching chemistry at SUNY Fredonia since 1987. Her courses range from general education classes to general and organic chemistry, general and inorganic laboratory and senior seminar. She is also Coordinator of Interdisciplinary Science Education, an interdisciplinary science course sequence for elementary education majors at SUNY Fredonia. Dr. Lawson did post-doctoral research at the University of Bristol in Bristol, U.K. She holds a doctorate in inorganic chemistry from SUNY at Buffalo, and a B.S. from the State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She is a resident of Orchard Park.

Deborah McCown, office manager for FSA in its Gregory Hall headquarters, is a graduate of the BOCES Automated Data Processing Program. She has been the Office Manager of FSA since 1986. She was hired by FSA in 1978 as a mini-computer operator trainee. She is a resident of Fredonia.

Department of Business Administration Professor Mojtaba Seyedian is a co-author of a book chapter, “Consumption Preferences and Utilities,” in the book “Systemic Principles of Applied Economic Philosophies: Producers, Consumers, and the Firm."

Strauss to conduct area concerts

Dr. Robert Strauss will conduct the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus in “ WALK TOGETHER,” a concert to be performed at three sites in May and featuring “Tyler’s Suite,” a nine-song cycle about the life and death of Tyler Clementi, as well as songs from, or about, Buffalo, NY.
