Julia Hopson claims state title in weight throw

Julia HopsonFredonia State junior Julia Hopson of Poughkeepsie/Arlington won the women's 20-pound weight throw at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championship meet recently, where she also finished second in the women's shot put event. Hopson's winning throw was measured at 16.31 meters, which converts to 53 feet, 6 1/4 inches. In the process, she earned 10 points for her team.  Also finishing second for the women was freshman Kate Brett (Webster/Webster-Schroeder) in the 55-meter high hurdles in a season-best 8.74 seconds.
