Jessica Akey tours and studies in Botswana

Please add descriptive text for this image.Jessica Akey, assistant professor of communication, attended a faculty development seminar entitled, "Turmoil and Tenacity: The Progress of Public Health in Botswana." Her opportunity came through the SUNY Fredonia International Learning Program, which seeks to internationalize the curriculum.

Dr. Akey spent a week in Botswana touring local hospitals and facilities and learning from guest speakers at the University of Botswana. She also spent three days in South Africa touring the historic Soweto area of Johannesburg.

She teaches Fundamentals of Communication and courses such as Group Communication and Health Communication. Her research focuses on health messages, both interpersonal and mass mediated. She is shown in the photo at right at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve in Botswana.

Strauss to conduct area concerts

Dr. Robert Strauss will conduct the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus in “ WALK TOGETHER,” a concert to be performed at three sites in May and featuring “Tyler’s Suite,” a nine-song cycle about the life and death of Tyler Clementi, as well as songs from, or about, Buffalo, NY.
