Community Service Fair coming Sept. 21

Christine Davis Mantai

SUNY Fredonia's Office of Volunteer and Community Services along with its Volunteer Services Advisory Group will sponsor its third Community Service Fair in the Williams Center, Multipurpose Room on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Fair is one of the many ways in which the Office of Volunteer and Community Services seeks to build partnerships between the campus and the community.

Students will have an opportunity to meet with a variety of local service agencies and discuss, learn about and sign-up for volunteer opportunities at the prospective sites.

Participating volunteer groups will include the Campus and Community Center, United Way of Chautauqua County, American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club, WCA Home, Meals on Wheels, Centaur Stride and others. SUNY Fredonia students devoted approximately 7,000 hours to volunteer opportunities during the 2005-2006 academic year. “This year, we’d like to have even more,” Ms. Harvard Smith said.

For more information about the Community Service Fair, please contact Volunteer and Community Services Coordinator Joyce Harvard Smith at 716-673-3690 or smithjh@fredonia.edu.
