Buffalo News and WGR-AM sports icon Sullivan to speak Dec. 1

SUNY Fredonia's chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists welcomes Buffalo News Senior Sports Columnist Jerry Sullivan to campus Wed., Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. in 180 Fenton Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Mr. Sullivan has been working at The Buffalo News since 1989 as a sports columnist, and more recently has also been a regular contributor to WGR-AM's sports talk programming. He is well known for his fiery and passionate opinions on sports, both on and off the court/field/ice.

In his 21 years at The Buffalo News, the Rhode Island native has covered all the major sporting events, including the Olympics, the Masters, Super Bowls, World Series, NCAA Final Four and the NBA.

Before coming to Buffalo he covered the NBA for New York City Newsday. A graduate of the University of Missouri, he worked at the Binghamton Sun-Bulletin and the Syracuse Herald-Journal. He has also freelanced for Sport magazine.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
