Bassoonist Laura Koepke giving recital Sunday

SUNY Fredonia School of Music faculty member and bassoonist Laura Koepke will give a recital Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public. It will feature the works of Antonio Vivaldi, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Malcolm Arnold, Maurice Ravel, Michel Corrette, and Ernesto Nazareth.

Ms. Koepke will be joined by faculty members Janet Sung, Maureen Yuen, David Rose, Natasha Farny, Jordan Frazier, Fr. Sean Duggan, James Piorkowski, Mary Cobb; and members of Ms. Koepke’s bassoon studio Lauren Thompson, Andrea Roney, Zachary Arenz, Heather MacLean, Lindsey Ackles, Cindy Gokey; and percussionist Douglas Feig.

Ms. Koepke has performed with many of New York's finest orchestras, including the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke's, American Composers Orchestra, New York Pops, American Symphony Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, New York City Opera, and the Westchester Philharmonic.

Since 1998, Ms. Koepke has been a member of the internationally acclaimed woodwind quintet, Quintet of the Americas. Two recent recordings with the quintet include Dancing in Columbia (MSR Classics) and Karel Husa-Recollections (New World Records.) Their most recent CD, entitled “Sounds of Brazil,” will be commercially released in October. 

Ms. Koepke joined the SUNY Fredonia music faculty in 2007. She previously taught at New York University, Manhattan School of Music Pre-college, Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, and Western Connecticut State University.

She graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College and holds a master's degree and Artist Diploma from Yale University School of Music, where she studied with Stephen Maxym and Frank Morelli.
