Guarino and Majka have big weekends

Junior Nick Guarino continued his terrific season Saturday at the SUNYAC championship meet, setting meet records in the mile and 800 meter races at Hobart and William Smith colleges. He won both events and entered the weekend as the fastest miler this winter in NCAA Division III and among the fastest in the 800. On the women's side, senior Jackie Majka produced three distinguished performances of her own. She cleared a season-best in the high jump and a personal-best in the long jump, both victories. She also had a personal-best in the triple jump, good for second place. Next up, the ECAC championship meet next Friday and Saturday at Smith College in Northampton, Mass.

Friends and faculty honored the late Jessa Webber at Pink the Rink

The roster of Pink the Rink honorees was made up of moms and dads, grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts, uncles, colleagues, and retirees. And then there was Fredonia's student, Jessica Webber. Jessa died Jan. 6 after a seven-year battle with brain cancer. She was a junior business major at Fredonia State, and is the youngest of all the people who were honored Saturday night at Steele Hall.

Hockey's annual Pink the Rink game benefits cancer research; Blue Devils take on Morrisville

The Fredonia State men’s hockey team will wrap up the SUNYAC regular season in high style, while promoting a very good cause, by staging its fan-favorite “Pink the Rink” game. The annual event, which serves as a fundraiser in the fight against breast cancer and has garnered national media attention in the past, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m., against SUNY Morrisville at Steele Hall Ice Arena.

A strong Case for success

A head coach at Fredonia State in two sports, alumnus Chris Case has recruited a steady stream of players who have repeatedly put their names in the record books. He has been named SUNYAC Coach of the Year three times — twice for soccer and once for lacrosse. “I’m always trying to find players who can come in and start for us,” said Case. “And even if they can’t start, good players give you depth.”
