Juniors Izzy Audette (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) and Gabby Alston (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) were named United Soccer Coaches Region III All Stars following a successful season for the Fredonia State women's soccer team.
Freshman Mackenna Nechwedowich had the best game of her young career, going for 19 points and 10 rebounds coming off the bench as the Devils put together a strong second half, downing Houghton, 71-54.
The Fredonia State hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie at Nazareth on Tuesday evening. Gregg Lee and Antonio Demacopoulos both scored goals, and Zach Willms made his first start in net, collecting 45 saves.
Three Fredonia State women's volleyball players were awarded with All-SUNYAC recognition following the season. Senior Christie Ackendorf was a Second Team selection, and fellow senior Emily Jones along with junior Selena Brown were named Third Team.
The Fredonia State Women's Basketball Team (2-0, 0-0 SUNYAC) used a strong third quarter to top Allegheny (1-2, 0-0 NCAC) on Saturday night. The Blue Devils scored 20 points coming out of the half and held the Gators to just six to secure the 60-51 victory.
The Women's Swimming team competed in a tri-meet with the University of Rochester and Alfred University on Saturday afternoon. The meet took place in Rochester with Fredonia State tying Alfred 130-130. The Blue Devils fell to U of R.
The Fredonia State Men's Hockey Team travelled to Morrisville State on Saturday for its first conference action of the season. The Blue Devils are returning home with another victory after scoring the game-winning goal with seconds to play.
The Fredonia State Men’s Hockey team suffered two losses last year; one on the ice and a much bigger one off the ice. One step in the healing process will occur this Saturday at the Steele Hall rink with the “Tanner Kahlau Memorial Game” against Trine University.
The Fredonia State Women’s Volleyball team is returning to the postseason. The Blue Devils are seeded fourth in the SUNYAC playoff and host fifth-seed New Paltz in Dods Hall Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
Junior cross country runner Kristin Kelemen (Bemus Point/Maple Grove) was named the Elite 20 Award winner at the conclusion of the SUNYAC Championship Meet on Saturday. An English/Adolescence Education major, Kelemen had the highest GPA of all female runners competing in the championship.
