After dropping Game 1 to St. Lawrence 15-4, senior pitcher Kevin Mahon picked up his third win of the spring, tossing a five-hitter in a 7-3 victory in Game 2. Mahon walked one and struck out eight.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has chosen Fredonia's Tyler Phillips and Oneonta's Michael Losak as PrestoSports Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week respectively.
The Fredonia State baseball team needed to play catchup, and exploded for eight runs in the final two innings to claim a 14-10 win over River on Sunday. The Devils finish their Myrtle Beach swing with a 4-0 record.
On Saturday, Nick Abdo and Josh Walters traveled to Nazareth College to compete in the 400m and the 800m. They both were able to achieve low enough times to qualify for AARTFC on multiple occasions throughout the year.
Fredonia State women's track and field team had one athlete compete at the Regional level. On March 4, Hayley Lerner traveled to Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y., to compete in the pole vault event, after qualifying for AARTFC. As a freshman Blue Devil, this would be her first regional appearance.
One of Fredonia State women's basketball players was awarded with an All-SUNYAC recognition following the season. Forward Katie Pitcher was named to the All-Conference Second Team for her exceptional performance during the year.
One Fredonia State men's hockey player was awarded with an All-SUNYAC recognition following the season. Goaltender Logan Dyck was named to the All-Conference Second Team for his outstanding performance during the year.
Fredonia State men's track and field team traveled to Brockport for the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. It was the last step before sending off Josh Walters (800m), Nick Abdo (200m and 400m), Toby Onuoha (triple jump and high jump), and the relay team of Griffin Dombroske, Onuoha, Abdo and Walters (4x400 relay) to regionals.
The Fredonia State women's track team competed in the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. It was the last step before sending off Haley Lerner to regionals for the pole vault, and saw Kristin Kelemen named as a SUNYAC Elite 20.
The Fredonia State men's hockey team fell to Cortland, 3-1, in the regular-season finale on Feb. 19. The Devils clinched a playoff spot last week, and their First Round opponent? The same Cortland Red Dragons, this time, in Cortland.
