Mary Cappotelli of LeRoy, N.Y., has been named Student of the Month for February by Residence Life. Joseph McFall, assistant professor of the Department of Psychology, nominated Mary because “she is a truly exceptional student.”
The Korean International Student Society (KISS) will host its annual Korean Banquet on Saturday, April 19 at 6 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. There will be a variety of Korean food favorites and several musical performances.
Students seeking a venue to sharpen their oratorical skills or those who simply enjoy being captivated by talented speakers are invited to the annual Public Speaking Competition on Tuesday, April 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at McEwen Hall Room 202. The Black Student Union (BSU) will be hosting “Culture Fest” on Saturday, April 5 at noon in Steele Hall fieldhouse. BSU will also be hosting a fashion show on the same day in the same location at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for both events at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center for $5, and will also be available at the door. All are welcome to attend.
The SUNY Fredonia Korean International Student Society (K.I.S.S.) will be hosting its version of the “Korean Olympics” on Friday, March 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Dods Hall gymnasium. The free event will help bring together international and American students using Olympics-inspired games including kickball, dodge-ball and a team relay.

The Educational Development Program will host its 32nd Annual Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 8, at 4 p.m. in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center. The SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble, which has delighted audiences on state, national and international tours since 1999, will perform at eight high schools throughout New York State during its spring tour. Evening concerts open to the public are scheduled at Pembroke High School on Monday, March 10, at 7 p.m.; West Genesee High School on Tuesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m.; and Rondout High School, on Wednesday, March 12, at 7 p.m.
Four students, including recipients of three Rosa Parks Scholarships, were honored at the 25th annual Rosa Parks Scholarship and Presentation Ceremony held on Tuesday, March 4, in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Receiving scholarships named in honor of Parks Kenneth Clause, a senior Drawing and Painting major from Lockport; Melissa Guida, a junior Psychology and Criminal Justice major from Fishkill; and Arielys Mendoza, a first-year student from the Bronx majoring in Cooperative Engineering.
A roster that could include more than 60 businesses, human-service agencies, technology firms and governmental organizations is being assembled by the Career Development Office for the Spring Job and Internship Expo to be held on Tuesday, March 11, at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. An “interview face-off” will be held prior to the expo on Wednesday, March 5, in S204 Williams Center, and InterviewStream, an online program that students can use to practice interview skills, will be used to record interview answers on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the CDO in Gregory Hall.
