A percussion trio will perform as part of the Children's Concert Series at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct 5. The concert, designed to introduce very young audiences to musical instruments, will be held at the Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia. For more information, call (716) 673-4628. This is a free event.
Groups of volunteers from SUNY Fredonia will lead beach cleanups at Point Gratiot and Wright Park in Dunkirk on Sunday, Sept. 22, from noon to 2:30 p.m., as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s 28th International Coastal Cleanup Campaign. This is a rescheduled date due to a severe weather forecast for Sept. 21. SUNY Fredonia’s Academic Community Engagement (FACE) Center is directing the cleanup with assistance from the New York branch of the American Littoral Society and SUNY Fredonia’s Sustainability Committee and Office of Volunteer and Community Services.

There’s no telling when any of us will be unexpectedly called upon to serve as a Fredonia “ambassador,” and that’s just the role that campus Electrician Orion Purslow graciously accepted on Friday, Aug. 23. Though he’s only worked at SUNY Fredonia for four years, Purslow’s knowledge of the campus and the pride that he has for it made a strong impression on these two visitors, serving as a great reminder that we all can have a profound impact on tomorrow’s students — and leaders.

WNYF-TV is teaming up with Calios, a new downtown Fredonia eatery that specializes in calzones, to raise money to help purchase new equipment for the campus television station. Calios, formerly known as Zonies and located at 13 E. Main, will donate 10 percent of all barbecue calzone sales between Saturday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Sept. 7, to the SUNY Fredonia station.
This year, the Dunkirk-based financial institution takes that support to a new level with a $12,000 commitment as the season-wide sponsor for the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center.
At the Campus and Community Children’s Center, Susan Amatuzzo, '06, supervises a staff of 40 that provides programming, supervision and activities for up to 70 children, from eight weeks through 12 years of age. She succeeds longtime director Judy Metzger, who retired earlier this year. “The childcare center has always been the premier center in my eyes,” Ms. Amatuzzo said, “and I am proud to say that the childcare center is a part of our university.”
