Support group for stroke victims meets at clinic

The Youngerman Center for Communication Disorders at SUNY Fredonia is offering support group meetings for stroke and head injury survivors and family members. The group meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m. in room W127 Thompson Hall.

Safety hazard found in lamps brought to dorm rooms

In tracking the source of the smell of something burning, a residence hall director at the State University of New York at Fredonia has created a chain of events that sent a popular product for student dorm rooms to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for investigation.

Spitzer inauguration included Latin Jazz Ensemble

The Latin Jazz Ensemble of the SUNY Fredonia School of Music performed at New York State Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s inauguration celebration held in Albany on January 1. The ensemble was one of only three musical groups representing Western New York at the inauguration’s festivities. Since the students were home on winter break at the time, they traveled from Arkansas, Florida and other parts of the country to be able to perform at the event.

College acting troupe is presenting holiday shows in community

A small group of faculty, alumni and students from the Department of Theatre and Dance at SUNY Fredonia are performing in four original productions at community venues this month. “Each show is a benefit performance for charity or a gift to the community from SUNY Fredonia,” said Theatre and Dance Professor Ted Sharon, who is one of the performers

Campus will close for 10 days during holidays

SUNY Fredonia will enter its annual energy-saving, year-end shutdown period at the close of business on Friday, Dec. 22. With the exception of a few offices, all buildings, services and operations across the campus will be curtailed until Tuesday, Jan. 2

Food, toys, clothes wanted for gift drive

The holidays are hard times for those in need, and SUNY Fredonia recognizes that many people in the area can use a helping hand. This is why a campus-wide donation drive will be held on Friday, Dec. 8 to benefit needy families in the area. Student volunteers will be hard at work collecting donations in the residence halls, in all offices on campus, and by accepting donations in the Williams Center, room G-144 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Last year about 25 boxes of food and 50 boxes of clothes were collected and donated to families in Chautauqua County through the Holiday Caregivers Coalition.

Susan Marie Frontczak as Marie Curie In the drama, Susan Marie Frontczak of "StorySmith" performs the role of Mme. Marie Curie, known for her 19th century discovery of radium and radioactivity. The event is the first to be supported by the Phyllis and Lawrence Patrie Endowment for the Sciences.

Broomball games raising dollars for orphans

SUNY Fredonia students are supporting the local Rotary Club’s “Let Kids Be Kids” program through a broomball tournament to be held Friday, Dec. 1 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Steele Hall Ice Rink. The event is open to all, and refreshments will be provided.
