Five longtime SUNY Fredonia employees whose collective service spans more than 110 years will be further linked together as recipients of Outstanding Administrative Service Awards for 2013. The awards, now in their 11th year, recognize exemplary service by employees in the five major departments of the Finance and Administration division.
The Fall 2013 Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series will focus on, "Digital Futures: Technology's Promises and Perils." The series offers monthly informal talks by SUNY Fredonia faculty members. Each panel presentation is followed by a brief discussion and refreshments. The series begins on Wednesday, Oct. 9, with a panel on, “What Makes the Forests of the College Lodge Special.”
SUNY Fredonia is working to transition to a smoke-free campus by instituting a program called, “Quit and Win.” The free, 10-week tobacco quit program offered by the Counseling Center will help students, faculty, and staff combat the use of tobacco products. Participants who join the program will be offered support services through the New York Smokers Quitline and be eligible to win tobacco-free products.
The 2013 Learn to Skate and Figure Skating classes have begun in 10-week sessions at SUNY Fredonia’s Steele Hall Ice Skating Arena. Classes are available for beginners through advanced skaters ages 4 years and up. At the Campus and Community Children’s Center, Susan Amatuzzo, '06, supervises a staff of 40 that provides programming, supervision and activities for up to 70 children, from eight weeks through 12 years of age. She succeeds longtime director Judy Metzger, who retired earlier this year. “The childcare center has always been the premier center in my eyes,” Ms. Amatuzzo said, “and I am proud to say that the childcare center is a part of our university.”
Nearly 200 artistically gifted high school students from across New York State will gather at SUNY Fredonia to participate in two programs – Choral Studies and Visual Arts – offered by the New York State Summer School for the Arts program.
Cranston Marche, the dining hall in University Commons, is open every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner through Friday, August 2.
SUNY Fredonia will again implement summer hours of operation on Monday, May 20. During the summer, business hours for SUNY Fredonia start at 8 a.m. and end at 4 p.m., with the lunch period reduced to one-half hour. On Monday, August 26, regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. resume.
