WNYCO, Westminster Presbyterian Choir to present Mozart concert
Many of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s greatest vocal stylings will be performed by the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and the Westminster Presbyterian Choir in “Amadeus,” a concert of sacred choral and operatic classics, at the State University of New York at Fredonia on Sunday, March 31.
The spring concert features both the divinely sacred “Trinity” Mass in C major and popular secular operatic themes all presented under the baton of Maestro Glen Cortese.
The choir, led by choirmaster and organist Garrett Martin, will perform Mozart’s Mass in C. Major K. 167, “Trinity,” along with the overture from “The Marriage of Figaro” and selected opera scenes and arias from “Cosi fan futte,” “The Abduction” from the Seraglio, “Idomeneo,” “The Marriage of Figaro” and “The Magic Flute.”
Fredonia School of Music alumni soloists Steven Maynard and Lucille Horn, along with 16 current Fredonia voice students, will accompany featured guest artist soprano Bridget Moriarty.
Serving as guest narrators will be Peter Hall, program host on Classical 94.5 WNED-FM, and SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Julie Newell, who specializes in opera. They will offer entertaining and informative introductions of the featured guest soloists and selections from WNYCO.
The concert, a collaboration of WNYCO and the Westminster Friends of Music, will be held at 4 p.m. at King Concert Hall on the Fredonia campus. Admission is $20 for adults and free for students with a valid identification.
Another performance of the concert will be held on Friday, March 29, 7:30 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Ave., Buffalo. Admission to the Buffalo concert is free.
