VanDette presents Mark Twain research at symposium

Department of English Professor Emily E. VanDette was one of nine presenters to share their research on Mark Twain at the annual Quarry Farm Symposium hosted by Elmira College on Oct. 5.
The symposium was held by the Center for Mark Twain Studies at Quarry Farm, the summer home where Twain wrote many of his masterpieces. It brought together Twain scholars from around the world to share their research on the topic of "Mark Twain and Nature."
Dr. VanDette's presentation, “A Dog’s Tale' in Context: Twain and the Trans-Atlantic Anti-Vivisection Campaign,” shed light on the iconic author's legacy in the animal rights movement. Twain's anti-vivisection story, "A Dog's Tale," is included in VanDette's new book, a scholarly edition of the novel "Trixy" by Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, published by Northwestern University Press.
