Special activities planned for move-in week and first week of classes

On Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m., a Zoom virtual event will include the 2016 documentary “XIII,” which explores the history of racial inequality in the United States and explains why the nation's prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans. Following the screening of the documentary, viewers will reflect on and discuss relevant topics. Facilitators include Drs. Michael Aiello and Jessica Finkelday from the Criminal Justice program and Dr. Jennifer Hildebrand from the Department of History, who also serves as the coordinator of the minor in Ethnic Studies. The event is being hosted by the Provost's Office

The Spectrum Entertainment Board has planned entertainment for returning students, including movies and games.

Monday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. - Williams Center Multipurpose Room - Movie Night: “Jumanji: The Next Level”

Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. - Williams Center Multipurpose Room - Movie Night: “Little Women” (2019)

Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. - Williams Center Multipurpose Room - Kahoot Trivia Night #1

Thursday, Aug. 20 - Email to students with a link for the Online Activities Night. Clubs have prepared videos for students with a look at their organizations!

Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. - Williams Center Multipurpose Room - Kahoot Trivia Night #2

Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. - Williams Center Multipurpose Room and S204ABC - Bingo Night #1

Saturday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. - Williams Center Multipurpose Room and S204ABC Bingo Night #2

Sunday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m.- Williams Center Multipurpose Room and S204ABC - Movie Night: “Jumanji: The Next Level” and “Little Women”

Also slated for the first week of move-in is a Campus Life Event on Friday, Aug. 21; the social media and email launch of FREDconnect, a new student and club portal.

The office of New Student and Transition Program has also created several events.

A sunset self-guided walk around campus is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, starting at the Welcome Tent.

An Art Scavenger Hunt is slated for Sunday, Nov. 16 and Thursday. Aug. 20 at 3 p.m. (pick up materials at the Welcome Tent); and FRED Paint2Go is slated for 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17 and Saturday, Aug. 22 (pick up materials at the Welcome Tent).

A Harry Potter Escape Room is slated for Monday, Aug. 17 online at 9 p.m.

In addition, there are several virtual New Student Orientation Sessions covering a variety of topics planned for the week; get-togethers for veterans and Keeper of the Dream students, and many, many other opportunities for fun.

Activities Night slated for Jan. 31 in Steele

Activities Night will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m., in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse. The event is co-hosted and sponsored by Spectrum Entertainment Board and the Student Association.
