As the culminating event to the Sunday, April 16 Fredonia Day of Percussion, the Ghanaian dance troupe, SAAKUMU, will return to SUNY Fredonia.

The dance performance is slated for 6:30 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room, and will be preceded by a dinner of traditional Ghanaian food at 5 p.m. in the Williams Center’s Horizon Room.

The dinner and the performance are separate ticketed events. For more information, go online or contact the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center at (716) 673-3501.

Over the years, members of SAAKUMU have become known to the Chautauqua area community. The dance troupe was founded by the late Master Musician Bernard Woma, who was a graduate of SUNY Fredonia.

The evening events will be preceded by SUNY Fredonia’s Day of Percussion beginning at 11 a.m. in Mason Hall Room 1080, with clinics on snare drumming, followed by Ghanaian dance and drumming workshops, followed by the annual drum set competition, culminating with the dinner and performance.

All events for the Fredonia Day of Percussion are organized by the Percussion Guild and sponsored by the Fredonia Student Association.
