Presentations set for Music Therapy Awareness Week
A wide variety of events that culminate with a music therapy recital in Rosch Recital Hall will be held during Music Therapy Awareness Week, hosted by the Music Therapy Club, which began Monday, March 21, and continues through Friday, March 25.
“Clinical Implications of Neurologic Music Therapy and Co-Treatment with Allied Health Disciplines,” a presentation by Elizabeth Abplanalp, NMT, and Evan Abplanalp, PT, will be held in McEwen Hall Room G24 on Monday at 6 p.m. Neurological music therapy utilizes neuroscience and research-based music practices to influence and change non-musical brain and behavior function. How neurologic music therapy techniques apply to speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy will also be explored.
“NICU, PICU and Pediatric Cardiac Care Music Therapy” will be presented by Elaine Kong, MM, MT-BC, on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Ms. Kong will discuss her experience in NICU, PICU and pediatric cardiac care through music therapy. Her Zoom presentation can be accessed online
A drum circle, led by Adjunct Lecturer Tiffany Nicely, will be held in Mason Hall Room 1024 on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
“Songwriting in the Modes,” by Wade Richards, MT-BC, will be held in McEwen Hall Room G24 on Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring a guitar. Mr. Richards is director of Spectrum Arts, Rochester.
Members of the Music Therapy Club will host a self-care practice and discussion gathering in Mason Hall Room 1024 on Thursday, 6 p.m.
Attendees will be able to see amazing performances and interactive music therapy interventions in the music therapy recital in Diers Recital Hall on Friday at 7:30 p.m. “We are so excited to showcase interventions, personal performances and speak about music therapy,” said Allison Evans, a junior Music Therapy major.
All Music Therapy Awareness Week events are free and open to the public.
