Piorkowski to be honored at farewell concert

SUNY Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski with guitar ensemble in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall.

A farewell concert in celebration of the upcoming retirement of SUNY Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski will be held in Rosch Recital Hall on Tuesday, April 16, at 8 p.m.

The special event will feature world premiere performances of guitar compositions that include: “Seasons,” written by Fredonia alumnus Thomas Rasely, ʼ73; and “New York Graffiti,” dedicated to the Fredonia Guitar Quartet and Professor Piorkowski and composed by Jean-Jacques Fimble, a faculty member at the Music Conservatory in Mulhouse, France.

The grand finale, “The Rabbit Hole,” by Piorkowski, will be performed by the entire guitar studio and faculty. 

Piorkowski joined the School of Music in 1983.

The concert is free and open to the public.
