The Department of Mathematical Sciences will celebrate its 24th consecutive Pi Day with a tribute to “Fredonia Rogers,” aka SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Robert Rogers.

“We'll travel through 'Pi'me exploring fun mathematics along the way,” reports Professor and Coordinator of Mathematics Education Keary Howard. The Pi Day celebration will be held in McEwen Hall Room 209 on Thursday, March 7, beginning at 6 p.m.

Teams of students will compete for their place on the coveted Pi Cup as they participate in a variety of games and activities. The campus and community are invited to join them for music, dancing, math and more. This year’s Pi Day celebration is precisely one week earlier to avoid a conflict with spring break.

"Dr. Rogers will be celebrated in a very special way with a testament to his style and attitude,” Dr. Howard noted. Teams are invited to “dress like Bob,” and in so doing will add important bonus points in their quest for the 2024 Pi Cup.
