Opera house to host free screening of Fredonia documentary
The red carpet will be rolled out at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House for community members as well as students and faculty of the State University of New York at Fredonia for a screening of “Among the Hemlocks. Fantastic Stories from Fredonia, NY” on Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m.
Assistant Professor of Communication Roslin Smith produced and directed the documentary that explores the history of Fredonia and includes the founding of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union in the 1870s. Over 84 students, faculty and community members were involved in the production. The film has been seen internationally at a film festival in India.
The screening is free and open to the public.
The documentary was partially funded by the Office of the Provost at Fredonia and also supported by New York State Opportunity/Council on the Arts. The project was made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, as administered by the Tri-County Arts Council.
