SUNY Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski

“Dragonfly,” a composition for four guitars, written by SUNY Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski, was recently published by Guitar Chamber Music Press.

As a composer and faculty member in the School of Music, Piorkowski has written many pieces for guitar, both in solo and in chamber settings, having been published by Mel Bay Publications, Clear Note Publications, Seconda Prattica, and Sergio Assad/Editions Henry Lemoine. He studied composition with Anton Wolf at the State University College at Buffalo and with Donald Bohlen at SUNY Fredonia.

Piorkowski’s recitals have been heard in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Argentina, Jamaica, Canada, and throughout the United States. For 18 years, Piorkowski was a member of the world-renowned Buffalo Guitar Quartet.
