Faculty members including Reed Library Senior Assistant Librarian Mandi Shepp and Visiting Assistant Librarian Katelynn Telford, with School of Music Associate Professor Jill Reese, collaborated on a new exhibit, currently available for viewing in the Rosch Recital Hall Lobby, that honors SUNY Fredonia Music Education alumni Dr. Bennett Reimer, '54, and Roberta Guaspari, '69.

Dr. Reimer is a renowned music educator in the aesthetic style and author of several books of music education philosophy. Ms. Guaspari went on to be profiled in the documentary "Small Wonders" for her work in opening the Opus 118 Music Center in Harlem, which was later dramatized in the movie “Music of the Heart,” based on Guaspari's memoir and starring Meryl Streep. Guaspari is also a recipient of a State University of New York Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree, conferred in 2000 at SUNY Fredonia’s Commencement.

The exhibit was developed to celebrate March as “Music in Our Schools Month,” and will be on display until the end of March/early April.

Some items included in the exhibit are on loan from the family of Reimer and some were curated in collaboration with Bridget Hogan, managing director of the Opus 118 Harlem School of Music.

A corresponding display containing books and scores related to music education is also available in the Reed Library. Those interested are encouraged to stop by the library's Music Mezzanine or visit the virtual display online.
