Mary Louise White speaker series event on Thursday

A reading by visiting writer and scholar Nishta Mehra is slated for Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. in McEwen Hall Room 209.

A book signing and reception will follow the event, which is free and open to the public.

Ms. Mehra is a first-generation daughter of Indian immigrants, born and raised in Memphis, Tenn. She is an alumna of St. Mary’s Episcopal School and holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from Rice University and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona.

An author and educator, Mehra has nearly 12 years of experience in middle and upper school English classrooms; her writing has appeared in Guernica Magazine, The Houston Chronicle, The Commercial Appeal, Gulf Coast Magazine, and NPR’s Code Switch.

Mehra’s first book, “The Pomegranate King,” was published in 2013; her second essay collection, Brown White Black, was published by Picador in February. 

The talk is part of the Mary Louise White Fund of the Fredonia College Foundation.
