IRS independent contractor tax law focus of incubator workshop

The Fredonia Technology Incubator will conduct an IRS Tax Law (1099) vs. employee workshop presented by School of Business Lecturer Mark Nickerson at the incubator, located at 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at noon.

The workshop is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

During the workshop, Dr. Nickerson will review a 20-point checklist to determine whether or not a person is a contractor or an employee and answer questions regarding federal and state tax laws. To register, visit online

“The Entrepreneurial Education Program provides entrepreneurs with useful, hands-on information and an opportunity to ask presenters questions,” said Incubator Director Chuck Cornell. “High quality and interactive entrepreneurial workshops such as this are a key part of our services and programming at the incubator.”

Nickerson, CPA/PFS, CMA, is the owner of Mark Nickerson CPA PLLC and has over 18 years of experience working with small businesses and startups. He is a lecturer in the Accounting program at SUNY Fredonia, as well as a client at the incubator.

An economic development program of SUNY Fredonia, the incubator works with external partners to promote economic growth by supporting entrepreneurship and development of new, innovative companies into successful business ventures.
