Incubator to offer ‘Selling for Startups’ virtual workshop

Selling for Startups, a virtual workshop on how entrepreneurs with early stage companies sell, will be presented by George Simmons, a senior partner at Derby Management, a Boston-based sales and marketing consulting firm, through the Fredonia Technology Incubator on Wednesday, March 10, from noon to 1 p.m.

In the workshop, part of the incubator’s Entrepreneurial Education Program, Mr. Simmons will cover how entrepreneurs and startups sell effectively, with an emphasis on how strong value propositions positively impact sales.

“While interesting sales tools come and go, the need to deliver a strong value proposition has been a constant in the sales world throughout my career,” Simmons said.

“The Entrepreneurial Education Program provides entrepreneurs with useful, hands on information and an opportunity to ask presenters questions,” said incubator Director Chuck Cornell. “I’m thrilled George will join us to provide a high quality and interactive entrepreneurial workshop, a key part of our services and programming here at the incubator.”

Simmons, a SUNY Fredonia alumnus, specializes in projects involving senior sales talent recruiting, sales optimization processes, sales management design, value propositions and sales metrics.

He has held all C-level positions with the exception of those in engineering for both public and private companies in a variety of industries including software, tech hardware, medical services, distribution, industrial products and packaging. Simmons also completed Northeastern University’s MBA program.

Recently, Simmons realized there is a lack of graduates with an experience in selling, and began working with Fredonia’s School of Business and the incubator to launch a course at Fredonia – Business to Business Selling.

“Sales is not what it has been perceived to be for many years – it is something I have been passionate about for most of my life,” Simmons said.

The incubator, an economic development program of Fredonia, works with external partners to promote economic growth by supporting entrepreneurship and the development of new, innovative companies into successful business ventures.
