Ihasz named interim director of School of Music

Daniel Ihasz

Professor Daniel Ihasz, a member of the School of Music faculty since 1992, has been appointed Interim Director of the School of Music, effective July 1, announced Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Kevin Kearns.

Mr. Ihasz will work closely during the spring semester with Dr. Melvin Unger, who has led the School of Music since July 2015, to prepare for the transition. 

Ihasz’s campus leadership assignments have included former Chair of the Voice Area in the School of Music, member of the Academic Personnel Committee and member and chair of the Planning and Budget Committee. He has also held a variety of leadership roles for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), including district governor for the state of New York and as NATS president.

A recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2013, Ihasz was awarded two sabbaticals for the study of vocal acoustics and training on the program VoceVista in the Netherlands, Italy and United States.

Ihasz has an M.M. in Performance and Literature and the Performer’s Certificate from Eastman School of Music.

Community involvement includes the Fredonia Central School Board of Education, where Ihasz was a member from 2005 to 2018 and also president from 2008 to 2009.
