Mr. Frerichs has spent the past 25 years using his artwork to address the impact humans have on the environment. His current work addresses human activity as the dominant influence on the environmental problems plaguing Lake Erie and the Great Lakes system.

Frerichs emphasizes sustainable processes and materials in creating his work. Most materials are locally sourced – including items found from the shore or near the shore of Lake Erie. The exhibition consists of several installations, works on handmade and collage paper, prints and book arts.

The exhibition is funded in part through a 2019 Global Warming Grant Project (from Ben Perrone and the Environmental Maze Project) administered by ASI. It will run through Aug. 28.

The Burchfield, located at 1300 Elmwood Ave. in the heart of the Buffalo Museum District, is open Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
