Dr. Jessica Finkeldey

Criminal Justice Assistant Professor Jessica Finkeldey wrote the article "Identifying as a Troublemaker/Partier: The Influence of Parental Incarceration and Emotional Independence" published in the Journal of Child and Family Studies (Volume 29, Issue 3, March 2020).

Findings in the article report that experiencing parental incarceration as a minor is associated with developing a troublemaker and partier identity among young adults who have low emotional independence. In contrast, parental incarceration does not influence identity among those with high emotional independence, or values, beliefs and identities in contrast to and separate from an incarcerated parent.
