Cindy McTee’s “Fanfare from Soundings,” conducted by Yixiong Xia, will open the concert. Mr. Xia, from Xi’an, China, received a M.M. in Music Education, with an emphasis in wind conducting, at Fredonia and is continuing his conducting study as the recipient of an Optional Training Practicum for international students.

Benjamin S. Kohn, a graduate student pursuing a M.M. in Music Performance, with a concentration in conducting, will also serve as an assistant conductor. He is from Washingtonville, N.Y., and received a Mus.B. in Music Education in 2021.

Concerto Competition winner Chris Mantell, a senior Music Performance major from Randolph, N.J., will perform William Bolcom’s exciting work, “Concert for Alto Saxophone.”

Concluding the concert will be David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 4, a work built on the hymn “Old One Hundred.” Professor Fr. Sean Duggan, organist, will discuss “Old One Hundred” as well as other hymn tunes that include the Bach chorales “Only Trust in God to Guide You” and “Christ Who Makes Us Holy.”

“What an honor it is to make music with these phenomenal musicians who are thrilled to be working together again in person,” said Wind Ensemble Director Paula Holcomb. “Their energy and passion infuse the music!”

The concert is free and open to the public and will also be live streamed.
