Campus set to commemorate Earth Day 

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join in the campus observance of Earth Day in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room on Tuesday, April 18, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Earth Day is a day for everyone to rejoice in the earth and its qualities, said Rachael Mayou, a senior Environmental Sciences major, while also providing an opportunity to educate people on how to live sustainably and learn what’s currently happening from an environmental perspective on the earth.

“That is what this event is about, to celebrate and to educate,” Ms. Mayou said.

The student club FRED Grows, the event sponsor, will set up a table with information about plants and the important role that gardens play in the environment, while also educating people on how to practice sustainability and care about the earth all year round.

Greystone Nature Preserve will have a table offering free plants and a place to paint the pots for the plants. The Fashion Club will set up a table to spread the word about the importance of thrifting and offer a clothing swap, where students can bring in old clothing to exchange, or leave clothing for someone else.
Information on current environmental issues will be available on numerous tables displays to help bring students and faculty up to date on current environmental issues and learn what they can do and how to become involved.

Guest authors will also speak.

Joining Mayou in conducting the event are Greystone Nature Preserve interns Katherine Studt, a sophomore majoring in Adolescence Education: Social Studies; Heather Decker, junior, Business Administration; and Anna Faulise, senior, History.

“The Earth Day event is for anyone and everyone who loves the earth and is willing to help and learn,” said Ms. Mayou, also an intern at Greystone.

The Earth Day observance is free and open to the campus community.
