Alumnus Nathan Burnside to trace career path in a ‘geologist’s tale’

SUNY Fredonia alumnus and Geology major Nathan Burnside will give an invited talk, “There and Back Again: An Environmental Geologist’s Tale,” on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Mr. Burnside will discuss his career path along with an environmental project at the lecture in Houghton Hall Room 132 at 12:30 p.m. The talk is free and open to the public.

A Dunkirk native, Mr. Burnside is an environmental geologist with over 25 years of experience. After graduating in 1997 from SUNY Fredonia with a B.S. degree in Geology with a focus on Biology, he married his college sweetheart and moved to Atlanta, where he has worked as an environmental geologist in various roles in different industries.

From his college days working as a technician for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Lake Erie Fisheries Department to becoming a senior vice president for a national environmental consulting firm, Burnside has had a deep passion for environmental matters and will share those experiences in his different roles.

In addition to speaking about his career, Burnside will discuss one of his recent projects that involves a large chlorinated solvent release, including an overview of the nearly 40 years of environmental investigations, remedial activities and monitoring the release.
