Nolan Ahearn, of Henrietta was named Student of the Month for November by the Office of Residence Life.

He was nominated for the award by Kate Huff, assistant director of the Office of Admissions, and Patrick Toscano, residence director of University Commons/Gregory, who noted that Nolan is “my go-to staff member for tough issues within our community, and never bats an eye when asked to go above and beyond.”

Mr. Ahearn is a Social Work major, has minors in Leadership Studies and Sociology and works as a resident assistant and tour guide in Admissions.

Ms. Huff states that Ahearn interacts with prospective students on weekly basis and also serves as a mentor to his peers in the tour guide program. He carries a 3.67 GPA while juggling both jobs, an internship and field placement in his Social Work major.

Ahearn is thoughtful, hardworking and displays the highest degree of professionalism, according to Residence Life staff. He plays an integral role in the success and continued growth of the tour guide program – an essential component of the campus’ strategic recruitment plan.

When asked his favorite things about Fredonia, Ahearn stated, “My favorite thing about Fredonia is the family. Through my three and a half years at Fredonia, I have met so many people who are beyond friends and coworkers, but actual family. I feel comfortable here because everyone makes it so easy to love being at this university.”

Ahearn’s goal after graduation in May is to go straight into a master’s program and earn an advanced degree in social work. He aspires to work in some way in the school system, perhaps as an elementary school social worker, or in a counseling role on a college campus.

The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community. To nominate a student, please visit online
