Adjunct faculty Sampson, Smith guest artists in residency at BGSU

Jamie Leigh Sampson and Andrew Martin Smith, contingent faculty members of the Fredonia School of Music since 2015, were featured guest artists (composer/performers) at the first New Music Mini-Festival hosted by Praecepta, a student-run organization at Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts, with support from The MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music.

Their three-day residency, held Thursday through Saturday, March 24-26, in Bowling Green, Ohio, was comprised of lectures, workshops and concerts, with featured performances given by “The ____ Experiment” (pronounced The “Blank” Experiment).

Ms. Sampson’s musical contributions to the festival included presentations of “Necessity is the Mother of All ...” (for reed trio), “(9:10 Rush) Elevator Music” (for solo soprano saxophone), “Riddle Me” (for laptop orchestra) and the world premiere of “Mended” (for clarinet and bassoon).

Dr. Smith’s musical contributions included a presentation of “November 5, 2012” (for reed trio) and the world premiere of “sine•post” (for clarinet, bassoon and live electronics).
