‘Escalation’ film/discussion to examine unhealthy relationship warning signs

An Escalation Workshop, a film-based discussion that calls attention to the warning signs of unhealthy relationships and assists those who are struggling with abusive and toxic relationships, will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 7:30 p.m., in McEwen Hall Room 209.

The film “Escalation” follows a college-age couple through the sweet beginnings of their relationship and shows how unhealthy behaviors can escalate into abuse. Staff from the Counseling Center and Students Teaching Equals Positive Sexuality will facilitate a post-film discussion. The workshop is free and open to students, faculty and staff.

“Escalation” was produced by One Love Foundation, which educates young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships and empowers them to become leaders of change.

One Love was founded after Yeardley Love, a University of Virginia senior, was killed by her ex-boyfriend in 2010. The foundation, which celebrates and honors the positive spirit and kindness that Ms. Love personified, is committed not only to honoring Yeardley’s memory, but also to saving others from suffering the same fate.

The foundation’s mission is rooted in the belief that abuse is an epidemic that can be stopped when young adults are educated and empowered to affect change in their communities.
