‘Bending the Arc’ global health documentary to be screened
The movie “Bending the Arc,” which tells the story of the extraordinary doctors and activists who founded Partners in Health, a leading organization that advocates global health equity, will be shown in Science Center Room 105 (Kelly Family Auditorium) on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m.
Paul Farmer and Jim Yong Kim, who went on to become medical doctors, and Ophelia Dahl, an activist, led a team in 1983 that launched a public health revolution by treating patients who had been abandoned by the health establishment. The community health model they created to treat diseases such as tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, initially in Haiti, has saved millions of lives in developing countries.
“Bending the Arc” uses still photos, historical footage and interviews that follow the trio as they transform from inexperienced idealists to international health advocates, according to the Washington Post.
The documentary premiered in the East Village in New York City in 2017. Subsequent screenings followed in Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco.
Partners in Health Engage is hosting the campus screening, which is free and open to the public.
