Credentials File Policy

Change in CREDENTIALS FILE POLICY

Credentials File Policy | Current Credentials File Users | Submit a Request

As technology has advanced in recent years, many employers have developed online application systems and are requiring applicants to submit all materials (resume, cover letter, transcript, and letters of recommendation) electronically. Because it is more practical, time-efficient, and cost effective for candidates to manage their own job search documents, the Career Development Office will no longer establish new Credential Files for seniors or alumni, nor will we accept new letters written for existing files. Nationwide, many other career services offices have already made this proactive move in the best interest of their students/alumni.

At this time, the Career Development Office will continue to service existing active files from the classes of 2018 and prior. However, we encourage these Credential File users to take steps toward self-managing their documents:

  • Copies of non-confidential letters will be provided to the candidate upon request, at no cost.  Email careers@fredonia.edu from your fredonia.edu address with the request, including the names of the authors as well as your telephone number; we will scan the letter(s) and forward the pdf. If not your Fredonia email account, we will take measures to verify your identity.

  • We cannot provide copies of letters on the Confidential Reference Letter form directly to the candidate.  Only the author has the authority to do that. It is recommended that the candidate contact the author to request a new letter, or to obtain a copy of the original. We can also provide a scan of the original to the author, who can then replicate it on their personal or organizational letterhead, and forward it directly to the candidate.

  • Unofficial copies of the transcript can be printed from Your Connection. To request an official copy of the transcript, contact Fredonia's Registrar's Office: www.fredonia.edu/registrar/transcript-requests
